Guide to fixed retainers
  • Retainers are used to reduce tooth movement after treatment.
  • You have had a Fixed Retainer placed on your teeth in order to maximise the chance of your teeth staying where they are. Your orthodontist is certain your teeth will shift into an unsatisfactory position without it.
  • It is reversible. So if you do not like the feel of the retainer it can be removed but you will have a removable retainer made to wear every night.
  • The Fixed Retainer may be repaired at no charge until you are 18 years old.
  • Once you are 18 a charge will be made for repair or replacement. There will be no charge if the retainer was fitted less than one year ago.
  • Repairs charges start at £41.
  • Replacements may take 2 appointments and charges start at £123
