Guide to tooth cleaning

  • Brush twice a day.
  • Brush firmly with a toothbrush using a fluoride toothpaste around the brackets, under the wire, and where the tooth meets the gum.
  • If you have a removable brace, clean this at the same time as you clean your teeth.
  • Brush for two minutes - (use the timer provided in the starter pack) before you go to bed this will ensure there is no plaque left on the teeth to cause damage overnight
In order to check that you have been successful in removing the plaque - use the disclosing tablets. Chew the tablet letting the saliva bathe the teeth. Rinse out and look in the mirror. Any residual plaque will be stained pink or blue. Brush again until the staining has been removed.
  • If your gums bleed on brushing - brush them again, healthy gums do not bleed!
  • After brushing rinse with a fluoride mouthwash. This will harden the surface enamel and reduce plaque activity.
